After spending nearly half a century visiting the Suffolk coast and countryside and taking in its tales and legends, I was inspired to compose some orchestral-based music. As I wrote, I gradually added lyrics to some sections. The end result is an album that captures the moods, atmosphere, beauty and secrets of the sea, the villages and settlements nearby.
The great Benjamin Britton, who made his home in Alderburough and founded the famous Snape Maltings concert hall, has strongly influenced me. His opera 'Peter Grimes' is something I'm quite familiar with. If any part of this album is reminiscent of that masterpiece, I'll be delighted.
I wanted to capture the feeling of being lost in the beauty of the area, of being at one with the sea and the land. The music is quite hypnotic in places, sometimes quite dark and mysterious, but ultimately uplifting. I hope it will take you to the places I've spent time in and evoke the same feelings I had when creating it.
For each track, I've added a link to something related to the topic, be it a place, a discovery, a mystery or nature. This is just for fun!
